The Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs (GCYE) has expressed its disappointment over the exclusion of the Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment in President John Dramani Mahama’s newly formed cabinet.
The Chamber notes in a release that the official exclusion of the ministry from cabinet poses concerns for the development of youth policies and the ecosystem as a whole.
The release by the Chamber follows the announcement of 19 cabinet ministers by President John Mahama on Wednesday 20, 2025.
The release indicated that the National Democratic Congress received a massive endorsement from young persons across the country, hence a seat in a cabinet will be deserving.
“Youth-centered campaigns played a critical role in the massive victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the expectation for dedicated, youth-focused policies is not only justified but essential. The current Cabinet formation, however, fails to reflect this mandate.”

It continued that “the exclusion of the youth ministry from cabinet risks undermining expected targeted support and strategic interventions needed to empower young entrepreneurs and citizens. This oversight could diminish coordination in implementing youth development initiatives, reduce the visibility and opportunities for the ministry.
“This could have a negative impact in securing funding from development partners, and ultimately hinder the nation’s long-term socioeconomic growth,” it added.
The chamber made a passionate appeal to government to “re-examine Cabinet’s composition and consider a swift reconsideration to include the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.
This, according to them "will provide the necessary leadership for our youth—whose energy, creativity, and potential are critical to Ghana’s development."
