A 33-year-old mobile money vendor has been shot and killed by unknown assailants at Manso-Asamang in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
The victim, Augustine Mensah, had reportedly closed for the day on Wednesday, 26th February 2025, when he received a call from a customer requesting a transaction.
After attending to the customer, he was ambushed and shot while making his way home.
A passerby who found him in a critical condition rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock, with residents calling for improved security measures to protect mobile money vendors, who have increasingly become targets of violent crime.
Mensah’s killing comes exactly two weeks after another mobile money vendor, Patricia Nimako, was shot and killed at her shop in Krofrom, within the Kumasi Metropolis.
The young woman, who was in her early thirties, was laid to rest on Thursday, 27th February 2025, yet no arrests have been made despite persistent calls from her bereaved family for justice.
The recent spate of attacks has heightened fears among vendors, prompting fresh appeals for authorities to address the growing security concerns.
