President John Mahama is set to undertake a working visit to Burkina Faso on Monday, 10th March 2025.
The visit forms part of his broader diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening Ghana’s ties with its West African neighbours.
During his stay in Ouagadougou, President Mahama will meet with Burkinabe leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, to discuss key issues of mutual interest and foster closer bilateral relations between the two nations.
Central to their discussions will be the enhancement of cooperation across various sectors, reflecting the long-standing historical and geographical connections between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
The two leaders are also expected to deliberate on regional security concerns, particularly the challenges facing the Sahel region, as well as broader sub-regional stability and international geopolitical developments.
This visit marks President Mahama’s first official trip to Burkina Faso since assuming office on 7th January 2025, following his electoral victory on 7th December 2024.
As part of his efforts to strengthen Ghana’s engagement with its ECOWAS neighbours, President Mahama commenced a tour of Sahelian nations over the weekend, making stops in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.
His engagements with regional leaders aim to address pressing security concerns and enhance strategic cooperation within the newly formed Alliance of Sahel States.
President Mahama’s visit to Burkina Faso is expected to reinforce the foundation for deeper collaboration in security, trade, and governance, reflecting a shared vision for stability and development in the West African sub-region.
