Deputy Roads and Highways Minister and Member of Parliament (NDC) for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has expressed reservations about the reaction to the dismissal of Dr George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, 15th March, Mr Suhuyini stated that he was struggling to understand the widespread excitement that has followed the former IGP’s removal.
Dr Dampare was relieved of his position by President Mahama on Friday, a move that has generated mixed reactions from the public.
However, Mr Suhuyini questioned the basis of the enthusiasm surrounding the dismissal, noting that a similar reaction was observed when Dr Dampare was first appointed.
According to him, he had not witnessed any significant transformation in policing under the former IGP’s leadership.
“I’ve been struggling to understand the euphoria that has greeted his dismissal since yesterday, especially as the same was done when he was appointed,” Mr Suhuyini remarked.
“I didn’t see any dramatic change in policing in Ghana since his appointment.”
He emphasised that while expectations were high when Dr Dampare assumed office, the reality of his tenure did not match the initial optimism.
