Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed his sympathies to traders affected by the devastating fire outbreak in Adum, the Central Business District of the Ashanti Region.
The blaze, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, 21 March, destroyed numerous shops and properties, leaving many traders in distress.
Visiting the scene on Tuesday, 25 March, Dr Bawumia described the incident as “deeply unfortunate” and pledged his support to those affected.
He was accompanied by former government appointees and leaders of the New Patriotic Party, all of whom joined him in offering comfort to the victims.
In a bid to assist the traders in rebuilding their businesses, Dr Bawumia donated not only GH¢200,000 in financial support but also 1,000 bags of cement.
He emphasised the urgency of providing relief measures and called on the authorities to work diligently to prevent similar incidents in future.
“This support is just a small way to help you get back on your feet. I will continue to stand with you in any way I can,” he stated.
Many traders expressed their gratitude for the generous donation, noting that both the financial aid and the cement would be instrumental in helping them start afresh.
“We have lost everything, but this gesture gives us hope,” one affected shop owner commented.
As investigations continue to determine the cause of the fire, the community remains hopeful that long-term solutions will be implemented to safeguard their livelihoods from future disasters.
