President John Dramani Mahama has refuted allegations of hostility between his administration and the judiciary, reaffirming his government’s commitment to fostering cooperation with the legal fraternity.

He emphasised that his leadership values a strong relationship with the judiciary to enhance governance and uphold the rule of law.

Addressing members of the Ghana Bar Association on Wednesday, 26th March 2025, President Mahama acknowledged concerns about perceived tensions but assured the legal community that his administration remains open to dialogue.

He stressed the importance of collaboration in strengthening the justice system and ensuring an independent judiciary.

“Government is open to working with you, particularly on our side of the political divide. There’s this perception that we have a problem with the legal fraternity and things like that,” Mr Mahama stated, dismissing claims of discord.

He reiterated his commitment to engaging with legal professionals in a constructive and mutually respectful manner.

The President further pointed to key figures within his administration, including former Attorney General Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, as a testament to his government’s recognition and respect for the judiciary.

He noted that such appointments reflect his administration’s trust in legal expertise and the importance it places on upholding judicial integrity.

Mr Mahama firmly stated that his government harbours no resentment towards the judiciary or the legal profession.

“We’re not people who have any such animosity towards the judiciary and the legal fraternity. So our doors are open,” he assured, encouraging continued collaboration to advance Ghana’s legal and democratic institutions.
