President John Mahama has urged Muslims in Ghana to embrace peace and reconciliation as they observe this year’s Ramadan.
Speaking during this year's Eid-Al-Fitr national event held at the Black Star Square in Accra on Monday, March 31, Mahama encouraged Muslims to seek peace with one another and to engage in dialogue with their perceived enemies during the holy month.
"If you quarrel with somebody in this month of Ramadan, after Sala go to the person's house and make peace with them," he said.
The president emphasised that Ramadan, a time of fasting and reflection, should not be seen as abstaining from merry-making only.
"Ramadan is more abstaining from food and drink, it is a time for deep spiritual reflection, it is a time for self-discipline, and it is a time for kindness towards others".
He added, "This period invites us to clean our hearts of bitterness while observing the principles of patience, love, and humility."
