Benedict Ofori Debrah, a standout graduate of Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School in Legon, Ghana, has secured third place in the prestigious WAEC International Excellence Award for his exceptional performance in the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The announcement came during the 73rd Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), held from March 17 to 21, 2025, in Monrovia, honoring the region’s top academic achievers.

Debrah earned A1 grades in all eight subjects, placing him among the elite trio recognized out of 2,455,063 candidates across The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.

Now pursuing a BSc. in Human Biology at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Presbyterian Boys’ alumnus stood tall alongside second-place winner Henschel Tabi Frempong-Manso of Kade Senior High Technical School, who also scored straight A1s and now studies at KNUST.

The awards celebrate outstanding achievement in the WASSCE, a critical milestone for students in West Africa. Debrah's success highlights Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School’s reputation for producing high-caliber talent, with the young scholar crediting his alma mater’s rigorous academic environment for his triumph.

Currently enrolled at KNUST, known for attracting the region’s brightest mind, Debrah is already setting his sights on a future in human biology.

The ceremony in Monrovia marked a proud moment for Ghana, with two of the top three hailing from the nation’s schools.
