This Saturday’s edition of *Newsfile*, aired on JoyNews, is delving into two pressing national concerns: the recent controversy surrounding alleged suspicious aircraft landings at Kotoka International Airport, and the government’s ongoing efforts to deport foreign nationals involved in illegal mining, commonly referred to as *galamsey*.
The programme will bring together legal, security, and political analysts to unpack the legal, security, and diplomatic implications of both developments.
The “suspicious flights saga” has sparked widespread public interest after Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee in Parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, alleged that two aircraft linked to drug trafficking and money laundering were allowed to land and depart without due scrutiny.

Some Ghanaians have already called for full transparency and an independent probe into the matter, with some arguing that such lapses could undermine national security and Ghana’s international reputation.

Turning to the issue of *galamsey*, the show will highlight the increasing involvement of foreign nationals, particularly from Asia and West Africa, in illegal mining operations.

The government has recently deported some foreign miners as part of a renewed crackdown on environmental degradation.
However, experts have cautioned that deportation alone may not be enough to tackle the root of the problem, urging for more robust border controls, stronger enforcement of mining regulations, and collaboration with foreign governments.
