The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has elected a fresh team of leaders to steer the affairs of Olympic sports in the country.
Richard Kofi Akpokavie is the new President, replacing Ben Nunoo Mensah who headed the the body for eight years before deciding not to contest for another tenure.
Mr Akpokavie will be supported by three Vice Presidents: Mawuko Afadzinu of the Ghana Table Tennis Federation, (1st Vice President), Frederick Lartey Otu of the Taekwando Federation (2nd Vice President), and Ernest Danso, the president of the Ghana Baseball Federation (3rd Vice President).
The day-to-day administrative work will be handled by the current General Secretary of the Ghana Swimming Association Mohammed Muniru Kassim. He will head the secretariat as Secretary-General, with support from the President of Ghana Athletics Bawah Fuseini, the Assistant Secretary-General.
Taking care of the finances will be Treasurer Evans Yeboah and his Assistant Treasurer, Edward Patrick Nii Lante Bannerman.
The new board also has representatives from various sports. For Olympic sports, Kamal Sulley (Rowing & Canoeing), Delphina Quaye (Swimming), Richmond Rexford Quarcoo (Squash), George Tettey (Volleyball), and George Lamptey (Boxing) were elected.
George Owusu Ansah will represent the non-Olympic sports, while Samuel Tetteh Ayer will serve on behalf of affiliated bodies.
Additionally, three more members were elected to the board: Nathaniel Johnson (Karate-do), Edwin Amankwah (Armwrestling), and Rafatu Inusah (Triathlon).
Together, this team is expected to drive Ghana’s Olympic dream forward with fresh energy and ideas.
