Black Satellites head coach Desmond Ofei says Ghana must sharpen its finishing if the team is to progress from a highly competitive Group C at the TotalEnergies U-20 AFCON Egypt 2025.
Speaking after Ghana’s 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in their opening group match, Ofei admitted the team lacked the cutting edge needed to secure victory.
“We should have finished our chances,” Ofei told journalists at the post-match press conference. “We need to be more clinical in front of goal.”
Ghana took the lead but failed to capitalise on several goal-scoring opportunities before DR Congo levelled in a tightly contested game. Despite the result, Ofei remained upbeat about his team’s performance and their prospects in the tournament.
“The boys fought hard, and I’m proud of the effort. DR Congo were very aggressive and tough, so we expected a difficult game,” he said.
With the other Group C game between Senegal and the Central African Republic also ending 1-1, Ofei believes the group remains wide open—but insists Ghana must improve in attack to stand a chance.
“This is a strong group, and every point counts,” he stressed. “But we will keep fighting for qualification. We believe in our chances.”
