Ghanaian media personality and singer Afua Asantewaa has once again missed out on clinching the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon, following a review of her second attempt by record officials.
In an official communication, the Guinness World Records (GWR) team confirmed that her record attempt was invalidated due to violations of the official rest break guidelines.
According to the GWR rules, a participant is allowed 5 minutes of rest for every continuous hour of performance, a rule Afua’s team was found to have breached. Specifically, GWR cited two instances that led to the disqualification:
“At 23:25 during sequence 19, Afua reportedly took a 15-minute break, when she was only entitled to 5 minutes of rest. “Later, during sequence 21, she took a 105-minute break, despite having only 10 minutes of accrued rest time”.
These violations, GWR explained, made it impossible to approve the attempt, as fairness and strict adherence to the rules are required for validation across all record claims.
Despite the setback, Afua Asantewaa remains optimistic. In a heartfelt statement, she expressed gratitude to Ghanaians and her global supporters for their unwavering encouragement throughout both of her record attempts.
“It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey. Exploring my potential on the Guinness World Records platform has brought about growth, discovery, and life-altering experiences,” she shared.
She extended thanks to her team and sponsors, including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and other corporate sponsors, for their support.
Though this marks her second unsuccessful attempt, Afua Asantewaa affirmed that her journey is far from over.
