The Ministry of Transport has announced a prohibition on the importation of excavators without the necessary permit.
This directive takes immediate effect as part of the country’s renewed efforts to combat illegal mining and protect water bodies.
In a statement issued on June 5, the Ministry has directed all shipping lines to desist from transporting excavators into Ghana without a valid permit.
"Dealers and importers of excavators are now required to obtain permits from the Ministry of Transport before bringing any excavators into the country," the statement said.
The new policy, named “No Permit, No Excavator”, aims to ensure strict compliance with regulations governing the importation of heavy machinery used in mining activities.
Minister of Transport Joseph Bukari Nikpe advised all stakeholders, including dealers, importers, and the general public, to take note of the directive and comply fully.
“The Government’s decision is a necessary step to safeguard Ghana’s natural resources and prevent illegal mining activities,” the statement added.
