Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Independence Square in Accra Friday to observe Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice.
The national event was marked by communal prayers, reflections on the values of sacrifice and unity, and calls for peace and national cohesion.

The celebration commenced with the special Eid prayers, where Muslims from diverse backgrounds came together to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's unwavering faith and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God's command.
At the event, President John Mahama gave hope to thousands of Ghanaian Muslims with a promise of lower Hajj fares next year should the cedi continue its resilience.

This he says, shows his government’s deep commitment to their welfare.

Addressing a gathering during the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations at the Black Star Square, the President acknowledged the financial burden many families face when planning the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca.
He assured the Muslim community that his administration is actively working with partners to bring the cost down.

This act of devotion is central to the teachings of Islam and was honored through collective worship and reflection.

The celebrations also featured the traditional Qurbani, the ritual sacrifice of animals such as goats and sheep, in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim's devotion.

The meat from these sacrifices was distributed among family, friends, and the less fortunate, embodying the spirit of charity and community that defines Eid al-Adha.

This year's Eid al-Adha celebration at Independence Square served as a poignant reminder of the power of faith and unity in shaping a peaceful and prosperous society.
