Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah has criticised the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he describes as premature political posturing ahead of the 2028 general elections.
His comments follow the NPP's announcement that it will hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, 18th June, Dr Omane Boamah questioned the NPP’s priorities, urging the party to first render a sincere apology to Ghanaians for the hardships caused during its time in office.
“The Competent Economic Management Team did enough damage to pensioners, people with disabilities, women, the youth and Ghanaians in general,” he wrote.
He expressed disappointment that, just six months after the last general elections, the NPP is focused on internal political campaigns rather than addressing the suffering of ordinary citizens.
“In 6 short months, instead of apologising SINCERELY for their misdeeds, they’re focusing on the next elections,” Dr Boamah said in his post, which has since drawn widespread attention on social media.
The Defence Minister further accused the ruling party of prioritising its own political survival over national interest.
“NPP thinks only about themselves and the next elections,” he stated, adding that Ghanaians deserved better leadership and accountability.
He ended his post with a pointed reminder of the NDC’s campaign message: “The Alternative Is...” — a slogan often used by the opposition party to present itself as a more people-centred and responsible alternative to the current administration.
