The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has urged the full reintegration of the family of the party’s founder, the late President Jerry John Rawlings, into the party’s foundation.
This, he indicated was essential to honour the late president's legacy and continue the mission he began.
He made the call during the party’s commemoration of Rawlings’ 78th birthday on Sunday, June 22, 2025—now marked annually as “Rawlings Day” by the party.
Mr Kwetey stressed that the NDC could not properly uphold its roots without actively involving the Rawlings lineage. “The moment has come for the family of Rawlings to again be in the very foundation of everything with them,” he said.
He acknowledged Rawlings' children, including Amina and Kimathi, as vital to that foundation.
He specifically acknowledged Rawlings’ wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, urging her to come back to the party's fold.
"I believe the moment has come for the family of Rawlings to again be in the very foundation of everything with them. And the family of Rawlings means not just Rawlings but also Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings." he said.
Addressing supporters at the NDC headquarters in Accra, the General Secretary described the late president as a man born for divine purpose, whose role in Ghana’s history must never be reduced to memory alone.
“It is a celebration of a special person who actually was born with a special mission, and we happen to be beneficiaries of that mission.
"The moment has come for us to understand that this is the moment to honour the memory of this great soul and ensure that whatever he started, this is the time for us to really build a foundation so that the real reset agenda that he had in mind can start to happen," Mr Kwetey said.
