Residents of Woeviakpodzi community in the Anloga District of the Volta Region are in a state of fear and shock after the lifeless body of Kodzo W. Sosa, a 71-year-old retired teacher, was found in a well on a farm.
The tragic incident, which has sent shocking waves across the community and beyond, occurred on Wednesday, June 25, at about 0700 hours.
Adzika Solomon, a resident, said in an interview, said that the family of the deceased announced the disappearance of the victim on Sunday, June 23, 2025.
“We heard of Mr. Sosa’s disappearance on Sunday evening, and all efforts made by the community to find him were futile. It was so tragic to find him in this condition,” he said.
He explained that many suspected the victim might have been going to the farm and eventually fallen into the well, constructed for irrigation purposes.
“The height of the well is very short, and there is no indication or demarcation either,” Mr. Solomon said.
Mr. Laurent Doe, the Assembly Member of the area, told the GNA that the incident was reported to the Anloga police, who later retrieved the body from the well for burial.
“Due to the conditions and the situation at hand, the deceased was buried immediately; the body was almost decomposing. We acted according to the advice we received.”
Mr. Doe further commended the Anloga police and the Environmental Protection Authority for their quick response.
He urged the family of the victim and residents to remain calm and assist police in their investigation to uncover the true information behind the situation.
The well was later destroyed by the community to prevent any further incidents.
The police have since commenced an investigation into the matter.
