Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, have taken to the streets campaigning vigorously ahead of Friday’s rerun polls in selected polling stations.
This is in spite of the party’s official decision to boycott the polls. The NPP leadership announced it would not participate in the election, citing concerns over the electoral process.

Nonetheless, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie’s supporters remain undeterred, continuing their campaign efforts on the ground as they move house-to-house in a bid to secure victory.

The NPP criticised the Electoral Commission’s decision to hold a rerun in 19 polling stations of the Ablekuma North Constituency. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, described the Commission’s decision as unfair.
The election of a member of parliament for the constituency, part of the 2024 general elections, has been attended by chaotic scenes as the two main political parties, the NPP and NDC, have accused each other of fraudulent activities to steal the election.
The constituency has consequently been without an MP since December 7.
Only last week, the EC announced it would rerun polls in 19 polling stations to complete the exercise, but the NPP said the only thing remaining outstanding was the collation of ballots in three polling stations.
