The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public of its readiness to provide adequate security before, during, and after the parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency, scheduled for Friday, July 11.

In a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, the police said, “The Accra Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its preparedness to provide adequate security before, during, and after the Parliamentary Rerun at Ablekuma North Constituency scheduled for Friday, 11th July 2025.”

The Electoral Commission has designated 19 polling stations for the rerun, and “Police personnel will be deployed to all locations to maintain peace, law and order throughout the process.”

Beyond securing polling stations, the police added that they “will monitor vehicular and pedestrian traffic around the voting areas. Strategic barriers will be mounted to prevent unauthorised access to polling centres.”

The command appealed to the public to “cooperate fully with security personnel, observe electoral rules, and help maintain a peaceful atmosphere throughout the election.”

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or individuals immediately by calling “18555 or 192.”

Over the past six months, the constituency has remained without a representative in Parliament as the NDC and NPP continue to dispute the rightful winner of the seat.

Following several rounds of dialogue, the Electoral Commission deemed it prudent to rerun the election in the selected polling stations to determine the winner of the seat.

The NPP's Nana Akua Afriyie, who is making a comeback, will go head-to-head again against the NDC's Ewurabena Aubynn to find a lawmaker to represent the constituency.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has assured Ghanaians that the rerun of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North constituency will be conducted in a fair, transparent, and credible manner.

Speaking at a press briefing ahead of the polls on Thursday, July 10, the deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Bossman Asare, said preparations were complete and the EC was committed to ensuring the election process reflects the will of the people.

“On our part as the electoral management body, we are desirous of bringing the election in the Ablekuma North constituency to a conclusion and to ensure that the constituents have a representative in Parliament,” the official stated.
