Special Advisor and aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has lauded the President’s recent decision to cancel fuel allowances and allocations to government appointees.
In a social media post on Tuesday, July 15, she described the move as a clear demonstration of President Mahama’s commitment to safeguarding the public purse.
Her remarks follow an official announcement from the Presidency, confirming that government appointees will no longer receive fuel allocations, DSTV subscriptions, and other related benefits previously funded by the state.

The decision is part of broader efforts to cut public spending and promote a culture of fiscal discipline.
“This is very refreshing news,” Ms Bawah Mogtari wrote. “Scrapping fuel allowances and allocations to government appointees, scrapping DSTV and other small amenities is how we build a more equitable society. The President is seriously protecting the public purse.”
According to Ms Bawah Mogtari, further details on the financial implications of the cuts will be provided in due course.
“The Energy Minister will speak to the figures when he takes his turn on the government’s schedule,” she added, suggesting that a more comprehensive breakdown of the cost-saving measures is expected soon.
