Professor Kwame Karikari has delivered a solemn message to the Islamic community at a public lecture held in his honour at the GNAT Hall in Accra.
The event was to celebrate his 80th birthday and decades of contribution to journalism and mass communication in Ghana, Africa and the world.
Speaking directly to Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, the spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, the renowned communications lecturer and consultant said:
“Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, I’m glad you came. Keep doing what you are doing. We love all of that, but make sure that the transition of the leadership of the Islamic community is managed wisely and peacefully. That’s your assignment.”
The National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, is 105 years old.
On his part, Sheikh Aremeyaw lauded Prof Karikari for his contribution to academia, the country, Africa and the world.
"I was resting at home when I tuned into GBC and saw the event, and rushed here to be part of it. I think Prof needed to be congratulated for the sort of people he has mentored. The contributions he has made over the period...80 years of such a productive life cannot be taken for granted.
"Prof is tall in his academic attainment, but so short in his humility," he stated.
