The Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), warning the public against falling victim to recruitment scams.
Addressing journalists at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Monday, Dr Boamah cautioned that under President John Mahama’s administration, there will be no room for underhand dealings or financial inducements in military enlistment.
“The public is therefore advised to avoid fraudsters and scammers who pose as agents of the Armed Forces to recruit personnel. You will engage them at your own risk,” he warned.
“Joining the Ghana Armed Forces under President Mahama will be based solely on merit—not money,” Dr Boamah stressed.
The Minister revealed that the Ghana Armed Forces plans to recruit approximately 12,000 new personnel over the next three years to bolster its operational and human resource capacity.
He explained that the scale of the recruitment is informed by the growing security demands facing the country and the need to enhance the military’s institutional strength.
“This is to meet the operational demands of the Armed Forces and to further government’s commitment to strengthening the human resource base of the service,” he said.
Dr Boamah assured Ghanaians that the recruitment process would be conducted openly and fairly, with strict adherence to the established protocols. He urged anyone interested in joining the Armed Forces to follow the official procedures and report any suspected fraudulent activities to the lawful authorities.
