Ghana forward Joseph Amankwaah Opoku has extended his contract with Belgian Pro League side Zulte Waregem until 2027, with an option for a further two years.
The 19-year-old earned the new deal following a standout debut campaign in which he played 26 matches, scored three goals, and delivered seven assists in the Challenger Pro League.
His performances were instrumental in the club’s promotion back to Belgium’s top flight.
“Joseph Opoku brought a lot of excitement to Essevee fans last season,” the club said in a statement. “The Ghanaian is now being rewarded for his excellent campaign with a new contract.”
Opoku also earned national recognition, featuring for Ghana at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored the decisive goal in the final group game, helping the Black Satellites reach the quarter-finals.
Reflecting on his rapid rise, Opoku said: “Over the past twelve months, Essevee has given me so much. A year ago, I couldn’t even have dreamed of this scenario.
"Today, I am a professional footballer. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved as a team, but I believe this is just the beginning.”
He made his top-flight debut on Sunday, playing the full 90 minutes in Zulte Waregem’s 1-1 draw against Mechelen.
Opoku joined the club in August 2025 from Ghanaian lower-tier side Great Corinthians.
