The Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has reaffirmed his long-standing commitment to healthcare development with the donation of essential medical equipment to the Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi.

This latest intervention includes 50 mattresses, 25 patient beds, 10 patient monitors, 10 blood pressure apparatuses, and 10 wheelchairs, all aimed at boosting the hospital’s operational capacity and easing pressure on the overstretched facility.

It marks the fourth major contribution Hon. Asenso-Boakye has made to Suntreso Hospital over the years—a relationship that began in 2017 during his tenure as Deputy Chief of Staff.

His interventions have consistently addressed urgent needs at critical moments in the hospital’s development.

Notably, in May 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he donated an ambulance to the facility to strengthen its emergency response.

This was followed by the presentation of a brand-new Toyota ambulance in April 2024, further enhancing the hospital’s capacity for emergency care and patient transport.

Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony, Mr. Asenso-Boakye described Suntreso Hospital as a pillar of healthcare delivery within the constituency and pledged his continued support.

“Suntreso Hospital has always played a key role in addressing the health needs of our people. That is why I’ve never hesitated to support it. I will continue to do my part to help it grow and function more efficiently,” he said.

He stressed the link between public health and national productivity, warning that poor health infrastructure undermines economic development.

“No country can achieve meaningful development without quality healthcare. When the health of the people suffers, the economy suffers,” he noted.

Drawing from his experiences abroad, Mr. Asenso-Boakye underscored the importance of sustained investment in health systems.

“I’ve lived in countries where the healthcare system works and seen what happens when it fails. What we need in Ghana is consistent and deliberate investment in the right infrastructure.”

He also revealed that during his time in government, he initiated discussions with the then Minister for Health and hospital management to upgrade Suntreso—a process he remains committed to advancing.

Commending the staff for their dedication, he added:

“Our health workers continue to give their all despite significant challenges. I deeply respect and appreciate their sacrifices.”

Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Dr Omari Sasu, speaking for the Medical Superintendent, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the MP’s ongoing support.

“Mr. Asenso-Boakye’s commitment to Suntreso Hospital is both historic and heartfelt. These donations have come at a critical time and will greatly enhance our service delivery,” she said.

She assured that the equipment would be used efficiently to improve patient care and meet the growing demands of the local community.
