Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has disclosed that the Wulugu-Kpasenkpe Road remains under contract but is currently inactive due to outstanding payments to contractors.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, the Minister acknowledged the stalled state of the project, which has seen minimal progress in recent years.
He was responding to a question from JoyNews' Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, a native of Duu, a village through which the road passes.
“The Wulugu-Kpasenkpe Road is under contract but it's not active due to a lack of payment,” the Minister said.
“We are prioritising the road and we are encouraging the contractors to keep faith and keep working while we work on paying.”
The road, which connects communities in the North East Region, notably, Silinga, Nabari, Sariba, Duu, and Kpasenkpe is considered vital for local transportation and economic activities.
However, residents have long expressed frustration over its deteriorating condition, especially during the rainy season.
“Some of the roads, when it rains, are in a bad state and we implore the contractors not to abandon them,” Mr Agbodza added.
“We are working on paying you.”
