The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has directed contractors handling major road and bridge projects to introduce regular on-site design review meetings to speed up technical decisions and prevent delays in project delivery.

According to the Minister, the approach will enhance coordination among contractors, engineers, consultants and supervising authorities while ensuring that challenges affecting project execution are addressed promptly without compromising engineering standards.

Mr. Agbodza gave the directive during an inspection of the Dambai Bridge project as part of his nationwide road inspection tour of the Oti Region, where he urged contractors to adopt a more proactive strategy in resolving design-related issues.

He advised contractors against relying solely on the process of submitting drawings for approval and waiting for feedback before continuing with work. Instead, he encouraged them to organise site-based review meetings where technical concerns can be discussed and resolved in real time.

“I would advise that don’t be sending drawings and wait to receive it; rather, institute design review meetings and do that possibly on the side,” he said.

The Roads and Highways Minister stressed that improving decision-making processes on project sites would help accelerate construction, reduce avoidable delays and ensure that government-funded infrastructure projects are completed on schedule and to the required quality standards.
