The Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) team at Absa Bank Ghana LTD has refurbished a fully equipped ICT laboratory for the Derby Avenue Roman Catholic Basic School in Accra.
This is part of the bank delivering on its commitment to promote digital inclusion and empower young learners with essential technological skills.
The project, which was entirely funded by voluntary contributions from staff within the CIB unit, includes 30 new desktop computers, ceiling fans, blinds, ergonomic workstations, and chairs.
The refurbished lab is expected to significantly enhance digital learning opportunities for pupils and support the school’s efforts to integrate technology into classroom instruction.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Managing Executive for Corporate and Investment Banking, Dr. Ellen Ohene-Afoakwa, said the initiative reflects Absa’s larger purpose of ‘Empowering Africa’s tomorrow together …one story at a time’.
“At Absa Bank, we believe digital literacy is fundamental to preparing the next generation for the future. By investing in this ICT lab, we hope to create opportunities for young learners to learn, innovate, and lead,” Dr. Ohene-Afoakwa stated.
The gesture was warmly received by the school’s leadership.
“This ICT lab is going to make a big difference in our teaching and learning, and we are extremely grateful for your help,” said Doris Kang-Yelle, Headmistress of Derby Avenue R/C School.
Also present at the event were Rev. Father Wisdom Dordunu, Local Manager of the school, Ivy Deh, Absa Bank’s Head, FX Sales, Global Markets and the refurbishment project lead, as well as members of the Absa CIB team who helped bring the initiative to life.
The project is the latest in a series of staff-led impact initiatives supported by Absa Bank Ghana, reinforcing its belief in creating shared value and fostering meaningful change in the communities it serves.
