Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has paid an emotional tribute to his late colleague, Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, following Wednesday's fatal military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two Cabinet ministers.
Speaking to the media on Friday, August 8, after laying flowers in honour of the deceased at the Jubilee House, Mr Ablakwa described Dr Boamah as “my all and confidante,” noting that their bond extended far beyond politics.
The Foreign Affairs Minister recalled that their friendship and political partnership began in their days as student activists.
“Dr Omane Boamah was not just a colleague in Cabinet; he was like a brother to me. We started our political journey together through student activism, and over the years, we built a relationship anchored on trust, loyalty, and a shared passion for public service,” he said.
Mr Ablakwa described Dr Boamah’s death as a “deeply personal loss” that had left him devastated.
“It is not easy to come to terms with the fact that someone you spoke with only days ago is no more. Dr Omane Boamah was a man of principle, courage, and selflessness. Ghana has lost a patriot, and I have lost my most trusted friend,” he stated.
The Minister extended his condolences to the families of all eight victims and urged the nation to honour their legacy through unity and service.
“As we mourn, we must also remember their dedication and sacrifice. Let us commit ourselves to the values they stood for, so their memories will continue to inspire generations to come,” he added.
