Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in an investigation related to the tax obligations of a yellow Lamborghini Urus.
According to a press release from his management, the artiste voluntarily reported to the EOCO offices on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, accompanied by his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo.

Shatta Wale’s management has urged his fans, known as the "SM Family", to remain calm and avoid speculation, assuring them that his legal team is actively working with authorities to secure his release. The management and legal representatives are expected to return to the EOCO offices to continue discussions.
This development follows an earlier incident in early August 2025 when EOCO, in collaboration with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), seized the luxury vehicle.
The seizure was part of a larger international investigation, as authorities alleged the car was stolen and connected to the proceeds of a serious fraud scheme.
The seizure was a move under Ghana's Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804), and the Mutual Legal Assistance Act, 2010 (Act 807).
The EOCO, a specialised agency mandated to investigate and prosecute economic and organised crime, has the authority to seize property suspected to be the proceeds of a serious offence.
This includes cases where the original crime occurred outside of Ghana, with the agency often collaborating with international counterparts like INTERPOL and the FBI.
The news of the car's seizure and the subsequent detention of Shatta Wale has ignited a firestorm of discussion on social media, with many expressing concern over the artiste's situation.
