The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has announced that the performance of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region will be measured strictly by three indicators: sanitation, streetlights, and enforcement of by-laws.
Addressing the media at the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council on Thursday, August 28, the regional minister said, “Let me remind all chief executives here, your performance will be based on three clear areas: sanitation, street lights, and enforcement of by-laws.”
She explained that her report to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs will reflect these indicators and will be forwarded to the presidency.
The Regional Minister also appealed to the general public to support the efficiency of the institutions by playing their part in maintaining order and safeguarding public infrastructure.
“To the general public, I call on all residents to report all faulty street lights for quick action. Take responsibility for sanitation and avoid indiscriminate dumping. Stop mounting unauthorised billboards and assist security agencies in protecting public infrastructure,” she said.
She further warned against the theft of metals and gutter covers, saying that offenders will not be spared.
“I also wish to sound a caution to persons who steal metal and covers and sell them to scrap dealers. Please, you are warned to desist from this act. Anyone caught will be severely punished and dealt with by the law,” she cautioned.
She said that residents of the capital are demanding action, not promises. “The people of this region are tired of words; they want results and they want them now,” she said.
