The management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a temporary disruption of water supply to the Tema Metropolis and several parts of Accra following a major damage to the raw water transmission pipeline serving the Kpong Treatment Plant.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 18, GWL confirmed that the damage occurred earlier in the day and has necessitated an emergency shutdown of the treatment plant to facilitate repair works.
The repairs, which commenced immediately, GWL noted, are expected to take three (3) days.
Affected Areas
The areas to experience interruption in supply include, but are not limited to:
- Tema Metropolis
- Ashaiman
- Gbetsele
- Akatamanso
- Klagon
- Lashibi
- Baatsonaa
- Spintex
- Parts of East Legon
- Other surrounding communities
Customers in the affected zones are being advised to store sufficient quantities of water while supply is still available.

Assurance of Prompt Restoration
The company has assured residents that water supply will be restored immediately upon completion of repair works.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the patience and understanding of our valued customers,” the statement concluded.
GWL further reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable and safe water services to the public and says it is working around the clock to minimise the disruption period.
