The Ga Traditional Council has condemned the violent clashes that occurred at Omanjor and Sowutuom over the weekend during the celebration of this year’s Homowo Festival, which claimed lives and left many others injured.
In a statement issued and signed by the Registrar, Evelyn Amewotse, the Council said it had received the news of the incident with “shock and dismay,” describing the acts of violence as unfortunate and unacceptable.
The Council extended its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and expressed its hope for a speedy recovery of all who sustained injuries during the clashes.
“We strongly condemn these attacks that resulted in deaths and several casualties,” the statement read, adding that such violence undermines the spirit of the Homowo Festival, which is meant to foster unity and celebrate the resilience of the Ga people.
The Council further called on the Accra Regional Police Command to take swift action to restore peace in the affected areas and to ensure that those responsible for what it described as a “heinous crime” are apprehended and made to face the law.
The Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, together with the entire Council, assured the public of their commitment to preserving peace and stability within the Ga State while urging all citizens to uphold the values of tolerance and harmony.
