The Ofankor–Nsawam road project has reached 75 per cent completion, Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza has revealed.
According to him, with the government having fully paid the contractor $77 million, there are no financial constraints holding back progress on the project.
"The explanation given by the consultant helping the contractor is that we have done about 75% of the work, which means that we have done the bulk of the work already."
He made this known on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, a day after he had toured the road project with President John Mahama.

The president charged the contractor working on the Ofankor–Nsawam road project to complete the work on schedule, reminding him that the government will hold him to the June 2026 deadline.
Describing the project as critical because it connects Accra and Kumasi – the country’s two largest cities – President Mahama stressed that delays had caused significant hardship for commuters and raised concerns about financial management.
In recent months, commuters have mounted intense pressure on the government to prioritise the road project, citing heavy traffic congestion along the stretch, frequent accidents, and increased vehicle maintenance costs.
The Ofankor–Nsawam project began in July 2022 with an initial completion date of July 2024. It stalled for many months due to mounting debt and worsening congestion along the corridor.
Work resumed after the Mahama administration mobilised funds to clear the arrears, enabling the contractor to return to the site.
