The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that calm has been restored in Sampa, a town in the Bono Region, after violent clashes linked to a chieftaincy dispute left one person dead and several others injured on Wednesday, September 10.
In a statement, the Police indicated that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) immediately dispatched reinforcement teams to the community to contain the situation and safeguard lives and property.
Security has since been bolstered, with intensified patrols within Sampa and neighbouring areas to avert any further disturbances.
The unrest, which stemmed from a long-standing chieftaincy disagreement, had heightened tension and fear among residents until the intervention of security personnel.
Authorities say investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that triggered the incident, although the identities of the deceased and injured have not yet been disclosed.
Reassuring the public, the Police stressed their commitment to protecting communities vulnerable to traditional leadership disputes, which have in the past sparked similar episodes of unrest in parts of the country.
