The government of Ghana has launched the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in Bibiani, aiming to ensure responsible and sustainable mining practices.
Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, at the launch, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that mining communities benefit from their local mineral deposits.

He highlighted key components of the scheme designed to benefit local communities, noting that large-scale mining companies are encouraged to release portions of their concessions for cooperative mining.
In addition, he said, large-scale mining companies are expected to provide support in the form of training, mentorship, and logistics to participating cooperatives.
The programme is designed to directly benefit residents, promoting community development and sustainable mining practices.

Mr. Buah indicated that some large-scale mining companies, such as Asante Gold Corporation in Bibiani, had already expressed willingness to support the programme.
This initiative reflects the government's efforts to promote responsible mining, community engagement, and sustainable development in Ghana's mining sector.
