Embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has arrived at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Monday, October 6, accompanied by a team of lawyers, for a high-level meeting with officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
The engagement is taking place ahead of formal charges related to alleged illegal mining activities.
It follows a clear ultimatum issued last Friday, October 3 by Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine, who cautioned that Wontumi would be arrested if he failed to appear before the CID.
Lead counsel for Chairman Wontumi, Andy Appiah-Kubi, told journalists ahead of the meeting that his client is ready to fully cooperate with the Police.

He, however, warned against any attempt to revoke Wontumi’s existing police enquiry bail, stressing that such a move would be vigorously resisted.
