When Karl Max said that, "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people", in context, he meant that religion's role is as a metaphysical balm for the real suffering in the universe and in society.
Speaking on a popular Ghanaian Podcast show, "The Real Talk Podcast" hosted by Elizabeth Essuman on every Wednesday, King Cobra Maharaj of the Maharaj Temple Ghana, an African religion activist, shared his ideas on the topic. "Finding God: Religion, Spirituality and Inner Peace".
The issue of religion in our environment can be seen someway if not carefully handled, but with King Cobra, he had nothing to hide. In the interview, he dissected everything plain and left everyone wondering and pondering at his revelations.
For example, stating that, “many pastors in Ghana come to see me, they are my friends and I help them grow their congregations, as well as teach them how to walk their church-journeys. We help them perform the miracles they do. You may not believe me, but they know that I am not lying.”
He claimed that, spirituality is the innermost discovery of one’s self, while religion is the outward side people use to make themselves feel better. “Many spiritual practices may get people to think that you are insane.” he added.
King Cobra claimed that if there is a God, then he has a wife and alleged that the Israelites do not worship the true God.
Most of his assertions on the podcast may not be well taken by the Christians folks, however, like the elders say, there are many ways of killing a rat. Aren't there? It's the end result that matters.
So it is in order to say that whatever path one has chosen to follow in his or her religious or spiritual journey, the end result of staying true to one’s purpose is key.
