The Western Region has become the latest to openly endorse and applaud a number of policies proposed by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the policies are designed to curb neglect and promote inclusive development if he wins the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries and is subsequently elected President.
Among the proposed policies are the institutionalisation of grassroots welfare through a national party database, the allocation of at least 10 presidential appointments per constituency, and the introduction of a constituency-based budget system to ensure equitable development across the country.
During his Western Regional campaign tour, delegates and party members have praised Dr. Bawumia for developing what they describe as practical and people-centred policies to address long-standing concerns within the party.
The NPP’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for Amenfi West, Akwasi Afrifa, was among those who declared their support for Dr. Bawumia, citing the policies’ focus on grassroots empowerment and constituency inclusion.
“This is one of the reasons I support Dr. Bawumia,” he said. “In this constituency, we have been completely neglected despite voting consistently for the NDC. So, if Bawumia is saying he will implement ten constituency-based appointments, history will finally smile on Amenfi West. For 33 years, we have never had a minister, a deputy minister, or a CEO — only an administrator.”
He added, “If Dr. Bawumia is going to implement constituency-based appointments, it means he’s giving real meaning to regional and constituency inclusion. He wants to give us the power, so if he’s ready to empower us through his appointments, why shouldn’t we vote for him?”
Afrifa, who said he has devoted his time to spreading the benefits of Dr. Bawumia’s policies to delegates, urged constituents and party members in the region to rally behind him by electing him as the NPP’s flagbearer and working hard to secure his victory in the national election.
“The last time, we gave him over 60 percent — let’s make it even bigger this time,” he said. “Dr. Bawumia has the constituencies at heart, so let’s support him and continue to stand firmly behind him.”
In several other constituencies visited, delegates and local executives also spoke highly of the proposed policies as they declared their unflinching support for the former Vice President.
