President John Dramani Mahama has paid glowing tribute to the late Dr. Victor Attoh, describing him as one of Ghana’s finest gynecologists.

Speaking at the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, where broadcaster Nathaniel Attoh served as the lead MC, President Mahama fondly recounted his personal experience with Dr. Attoh, who passed away 22 years ago.

“His father was Dr. Attoh, one of the best gynecologists in Ghana,” the President said.

“He delivered my four sons, and I used to go with Lordina [my wife] to their house for antenatal consultations. This was a very little boy [Nathaniel Attoh] then, but he’s done very well.”

The tribute drew warm reactions from the audience, as Mahama’s comments highlighted both the professional excellence of the late Dr. Attoh and the journey of his son, who has become one of Ghana’s leading broadcast journalists and boxing expert.

Meanwhile, the late Dr Victor Attoh also once served as a Director of football club Accra Hearts of Oak.

Dr Victor Attoh, an obstetrician gynecologist who trained at the University of Bucharest in Romania, returned to Ghana in the early 70s to settle with his family and serve his nation. He served at the Ridge Hospital for 20 years before retirement.

At retirement, he had served as the acting specialist in charge. He passed on in June 2003 after a brief illness. Until then he was the family Doctor.

Dr Victor Attoh was also the family doctor for President Mahama's nuclear family, specialist-in-charge at the Maamobi Hospital in Accra.

As a sports enthusiast, he rendered service to Accra Hearts of Oak as their club doctor, during the tenure of the legendary Coach Sam Arday, and also of blessed memory.

Later, he rose to become Director in charge of tickets and security.

He also had a stint as an executive of the Handball Association of Ghana, together with the likes of Hon. B.T. Baba, former MP for Talensi and former President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).
