The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is set to enrol 10,000 youth on the National Service Scheme (NSS) under a four-year programme.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, November 24, Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku explained that the programme is aimed at strengthening frontline agricultural service delivery across the country.
According to him, the initiative will also help clear the backlog of graduates from the ministry’s agricultural and veterinary colleges who have not yet been posted since 2015.
"Ten thousand youth are being enrolled on the national service scheme under a four-year programme. Each year, a portion of these youth will be retained as permanent ministry staff to augment our cultural extension delivery,” he explained.
The minister further announced plans to launch the Ghana Food Brigade before the end of December this year, as part of the ministry’s broader strategy to boost domestic agricultural productivity and service delivery.
