The community of Ahyia Yeboah, near Sokode-Juaso, close to Akyem Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, has been thrown into shock following the discovery of the body of a man who went missing earlier this month.
According to reports, Emmanuel Kwakye Daria, a 45-year-old farmer from Akyem Kukurantumi, reported on November 16 that his younger brother, Kwadwo Debrah, a civilian employee at Burma Camp—not a military officer as earlier speculated—had gone missing after visiting a location at Foforfo to retrieve a mobile phone.
On Tuesday, November 25, a community search team found the deceased in the Bediasi River, sparking tension among residents. In the unrest that followed, three houses were allegedly set ablaze, but the swift intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service prevented the fire from spreading.
Police have since arrested five individuals in connection with the incident, while one suspect is still on the run. Security personnel have been deployed to restore calm and support ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, a pathologist has been dispatched by the police to assist with the safe retrieval of the body from the river. This examination is expected to help authorities determine the exact condition of the remains, following earlier speculation within the community.
The area remains tense as residents continue to demand justice, while authorities intensify efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
