The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, in collaboration with GIZ, have organised the AYA Innovation Challenge as part of efforts to promote technology-driven solutions that strengthen patient self-care nationwide.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Dr Hafez Adam Taher said the theme, “Designing the Future of Patient Self-Care,” highlights the country’s urgent need to empower citizens to manage their own health, especially as cases of Type 2 diabetes and hypertension continue to rise.

He commended the initiative for encouraging practical, home-grown solutions that improve collaboration between patients and the health system.
In his opening remarks, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, stressed the importance of adopting smarter, more efficient approaches to reduce the growing morbidity and mortality associated with non-communicable diseases.

The event featured software developers presenting digital innovations aimed at improving self-care for people living with NCDs.
A panel from the Ministry and the Ghana Health Service selected the winning solution, which will receive funding and technical support to aid its integration into the national health system, further advancing Ghana’s commitment to developing locally driven health technologies.
