Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Sarfo Duku, has disclosed that the club is facing a looming contract challenge as several key players are nearing the end of their current deals.
According to him, players including Joseph Ablorh, goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, Samba Oneil, and Peter Amidou Acquah will soon be out of contract but the team's efforts to retain the players through ongoing positive negotiations.
Duku revealed that while Kotoko is eager to retain these important team members, the players are making huge demands.
“On our part as management, we're trying our best to retain at least the ones that we want to work with,” he told Luv Fm.
“Talks are ongoing, the signs are positive that even though the players are all yearning to go outside. Five of our key players, and you would expect that they will make a huge amount because of where they've gotten to.
“We also believe that Kotoko has invested in them, so even if they have to go, the first step is to renew their contracts, and when a deal comes, we wouldn't put any impediment on their way.”
He explained that the club remains committed to securing the best talents to strengthen the team but must also operate within its financial realities.
“We are putting up a proposal before them to consider for renewal of their contracts pending which will not stop them from going, if to be in their best interest, in the interest of Kotoko.”
