The community of Asonkore SSNIT in the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly was rocked by a home invasion that resulted in the murder of a 42-year-old man in the early hours of Saturday, December 13.
Unidentified assailants fatally attacked Bismark Yaw Sarfo Danso inside his own residence.
The incident has triggered an investigation by the Obuasi Divisional Police Command, which has already detained a close relative of the deceased for questioning as they piece together the sequence of events.
The tragedy unfolded between 1:30 am and 2:00 am when a gang of three armed men forcefully entered the deceased’s house.
Speaking to Adom News Correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, the wife of the deceased, Comfort Mensah, provided a harrowing account of the incident. She detailed how the intruders, after gaining entry, ransacked the premises before committing the heinous act.
The gang reportedly made off with cash, a laptop, and other valuable items, suggesting a motive of armed robbery.
However, the subsequent murder of Mr. Danso has escalated the case from a simple robbery to a high-priority homicide investigation.
In a surprising turn, the police quickly moved to detain the deceased’s junior brother for questioning, indicating that their investigation is looking beyond external assailants and considering internal dynamics or potential complicity.
Comfort Mensah confirmed the development, noting the quick response of law enforcement:
The body of Bismark Yaw Sarfo Danso has been transported to a mortuary in the Ashanti Region pending a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Obuasi East, a municipality known for its deep historical ties to the massive AngloGold Ashanti gold mine, has often struggled with sporadic crime linked to economic pressures.
The Asonkore SSNIT area, a residential zone, is generally considered secure.
The Obuasi Divisional Police Command has urged anyone with information related to the home invasion and murder to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
