The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects following the circulation of a viral video showing the physical abuse of a young girl at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the arrests were carried out by the IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after swift investigations traced the incident to Agona Jamasi.
According to the Police, suspect Grace Mensah was first arrested after intelligence-led operations in the area. Further investigations subsequently led to the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto, the man captured in the video assaulting the child.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on December 6, 2025, the 11-year-old victim reportedly went out and failed to return home. During interrogation, Osei Akoto told the Police that he had been authorised by the child’s grandmother to assault her.
The Police said the victim has since been rescued and is currently safe. Both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to assist with further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its firm commitment to protecting children and assured the public that it will deal decisively with all forms of abuse.
