The Ministry of Education has completed a review and update of key indicators under the Education Management Information System (EMIS) to better reflect the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education service delivery.
The exercise was carried out during a two-day stakeholder workshop held from December 17 to 18, 2025, at the YOTA Skills Hub in East Legon.

The workshop was organised by the Ministry’s Pre-Tertiary Directorate and the Statistics, Research, Information Management (SRIM) Directorate, in collaboration with Youth Opportunity & Transformation in Africa (YOTA).
The engagement brought together stakeholders from the education and ICT sectors to examine existing ICT-related data gaps and strengthen the EMIS framework to support improved planning, monitoring, and evidence-based decision-making.

Participants reviewed current EMIS indicators and proposed updates to ensure more accurate data capture on ICT infrastructure in schools, teachers’ digital competencies, learners’ access to digital tools, and the actual use of technology in teaching and learning.
At the end of the workshop, stakeholders agreed on the integration of the revised indicators into the next national school census.

Additional resolutions included strengthening data collection processes at the school and district levels and expanding ICT data coverage across the education service.
The Ministry of Education says the review forms part of broader efforts to strengthen education data systems and promote ICT-enabled teaching and learning, with the ultimate goal of improving learning outcomes nationwide.
