Six people have been killed, and two others are in critical condition following a fatal road accident involving an aboboyaa (tricycle) and a timber truck at Sehwi Asikuma in the Bia West District of the Western North Region.
The accident occurred when the aboboyaa, carrying the rider and seven market women, collided head-on with a timber-laden truck travelling in the opposite direction.
Eyewitnesses reported that the timber truck was speeding, forcing the aboboyaa rider to swerve in an attempt to avoid the collision. Despite the attempt, the truck reportedly rammed the tricycle with full force.
The impact was severe, leaving the aboboyaa mangled and killing six occupants on the spot. Two women sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to the Essam Cocoa Clinic, where they are currently receiving intensive medical care.
The aboboyaa rider is said to have fled the scene and has not yet been traced. The driver of the timber truck is assisting police with the ongoing investigation.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and transport the injured to the hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a morgue for preservation and identification.
Police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.
