The much-anticipated Armwrestling Supermatch held on Thursday night in Accra lived up to its billing, delivering high-octane action and thrilling contests as Ghana’s finest armwrestlers battled for supremacy at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The sweep-format competition proved a true test of strength, technique and mental toughness, bringing together elite pullers who dominated continental competitions or won world championship medals in 2025.

The atmosphere was electric as the matches commenced, with each competitor focused on victory. Immigration officer Godwin Sackey, popularly known as Fadona, put on a dazzling performance, relying on his lightning-fast reflexes to overpower the fast-improving Joshua Yeboah in a commanding 4–1 sweep.
In the men’s 60kg category, Daniel Acquah of the Ghana Prisons Service lived up to his reputation. The towering powerhouse, known for both showmanship and strength, remained composed as he unleashed a dominant display to demolish compatriot Henry Otoo, also of the Prisons Service.

Policewoman and 2024 World Champion, Grace Minta, returned from a break to face a stern challenge from Linda Akoma. However, her experience and composure proved decisive as she sealed a convincing 2–0 sweep victory.
The competition remained fiercely contested throughout the night. World silver medallist and immigration officer, Blessed Abeka Nunoo, was pushed to her limits by 2025 Africa’s best female puller, Mabel Yeboah of the Ghana Prisons Service. Mabel’s speed and reflexes proved overwhelming, earning her a stylish 2–1 sweep win.

Haruna Tahiru’s blend of brute strength and experience paid off as he secured a thrilling victory over Captain Edward Yamoah Asamoah, popularly known as Royal, in a keenly fought contest. In the women’s heavyweight division, Afia Kumah moved up in weight to dethrone Florence Boakye in an impressive performance.
The crowd erupted as the intensity peaked, cheering passionately for their favourite pullers and celebrating each victory, while competitors exchanged warm congratulations at the end of the bouts.
The Supermatch attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including Dr Fred Awaah, Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority; Mr Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee; and Mr Bawa Fuseini, Mr Kamal Sulley, Mr Mawuko Afadzinu and Mr Rafatu Inusah, Presidents of Athletics, Rowing, Table Tennis and Rugby respectively.
