Basake Holy Stars edged Bechem United 2–1 in a keenly contested Ghana Premier League encounter on Sunday at the AAK II SPORTS ARENA, securing a valuable home victory that lifted them further clear of the relegation zone.
Holy Stars started with intent and were rewarded in the 15th minute when Prince Opoku opened the scoring, capitalising on early pressure to give the hosts control.
Bechem United gradually settled and grew into the contest, but Holy Stars remained organised and clinical.
Their advantage was doubled on the stroke of half-time as Sylvester Simba struck in first-half added time, a crucial goal that shifted momentum firmly in favour of the home side heading into the break.
Bechem United responded positively after the restart and reduced the deficit in the 53rd minute through Augustine Okrah, injecting renewed belief into their performance.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser, committing numbers forward and forcing Holy Stars to defend deep for long spells. Despite sustained pressure, Holy Stars held their shape and managed the closing stages with discipline and composure to see out the win.
The result leaves Holy Stars 12th on 23 points after 19 matches, while Bechem United remain just above the relegation places with 22 points.
Attention now turns to the next round of fixtures, with Holy Stars facing a daunting trip away to Asante Kotoko, while Bechem United will look to bounce back at home against Heart of Lions.
