The spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful and former Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has cautioned fellow aspirants, particularly Dr Bryan Achampong, against underestimating Dr Adutwum following a viral video in which Bryan Achampong is seen downplaying his relevance in the party’s flagbearer race.
Opoku Mensah, the spokesperson, described the comments in the video, as well as similar remarks on some platforms, as mischievous attempts to mislead party delegates ahead of the January 31 vote.
According to him, efforts to portray Dr Adutwum as not being a serious contender do not reflect the reality on the ground within the party.
He argued that some aspirants have largely kept their names in circulation through attacks and jabs at opponents, without clearly articulating why they deserve the support of delegates.
Opoku Mensah said engagements with party delegates across the country suggest many clearly understand the task ahead and have already settled on Dr Adutwum as their preferred choice.
He described Dr Adutwum as a clean candidate with no political baggage, adding that he understands the party’s grassroots and the expectations of delegates.
According to the Adutwum camp, the NPP has made it clear that its next leader must be a generational thinker and a proven reformer capable of repositioning the party for future electoral success.
Opoku Mensah said these qualities are embedded in Dr Adutwum’s public service record and leadership vision, insisting that the delegates’ verdict will be evident when votes are counted on January 31.
